what is the best "not so sportlike" motorcycle games?

Main Post:

i know ride and such but they always really f1 or sportlike style games but is there any games that feel like (and this is the best i can put it), need for speedy and the crew instead of granturismo and f1 style games i am asking this for someone.

edit i forgot the names for them: a more arcade-like game than a sim

Top Comment: Probably all the motorbike stuff you can do on GTA

What are some good mountain biking/dirt biking games

Main Post: What are some good mountain biking/dirt biking games

Top Comment: Descenders is a game you should look into. It’s on Game Pass. It’s downhill mountain bike racing and every map/course is randomly generated. Might be something you’d enjoy. Edit: It also can be played in first person view.

New Player asking for advice about RIDE and Bike racing games

Main Post:

Hello fellow racers,

I would like to ask few questions and would appreciate all your opinions

Between the Ride franchise, which ones are your top 3 games?

I've already bought RIDE 2 Special Edition for PS5 and It's awesome despite its age

Did you play any MotoGP and/or TT Isle of Man games and if you did can you tell me which ones you would recommend ?

Sorry for asking, but I'm just getting into Bikes games more lately and I want to add all the better games to my collection

I've always enjoyed Motocross and Supercross racing games but that was it regarding Bikes racing games

I'm sorry for asking so many questions, because I'm kind of newbie in the subject of Street Bikes Racing games but I'm enjoying it a lot

Appreciate any help and thanks in advance to those who can take their time to give their opinions

Top Comment: Personally I think Ride 3 is the best one. It was the last ride game that was more arcade and from 4 they moved more towards the sim style. Have to break ages before the corner, much easier to fall off your bike etc. The graphics and sound were improved but the overall gameplay is better in 3. 3 also had a ton of more interesting bikes available that weren’t necessarily race bikes and cool point a to b route locations. Also prefer the way you unlock certain bikes only by completing their ‘magazine’

[PC] Open-world motorcycle games?

Main Post:

I'm looking for open-world games that you can explore on a motorcycle. I'd prefer something with a lot of countryside, not just a city.

I have already tried Motocross Madness, Test Drive Unlimited 2, the GTA series, the Saints Row series, the Just Cause series, and Fuel.

Thank you! <3

Didn't see Burnout Paradise on this list, but there's a solid roster of bikes to unlock and ride around Paradise City.

stationary bike video games (video games with pedaling, not gamification of cycling)

Main Post:

One of my kids is a runner but got injured & can only cross-train on a stationary bike for a while, but I worry it won't be motivating enough. We're gonna trial a Peloton for a bit, but what would really get my pre-teen & early-teen kids to move more would be video games built into stationary bikes. Peloton has its one (and only?) Lanebreak game, but a platform with multiple games would be a better alternative for this use case. The world doesn't seem to have a good at-home option for this right now. Below is a round-up of what I found that comes closest. Did I miss anything good?

Background: Fitness & fun have been converging from disparate direction in recent years:

  • Spin classes make cycling fun with music, instructors, & social aspects. Peloton brings that experience home. (See r/pelotoncycle)
  • Road cycling, touring or races, is inherently fun for some. Zwift platform tries to bring that experience indoors at home via bike trainers or stationary bikes, with some gamification or riding like social features, virtual racing, leaderboards, etc. But it's inherently adding game like features to the basic activity of cycling rather than being an actual game. (Subs r/Zwift & often r/cycling frequently discuss.)
  • Office workers have been sticking treadmills or stationary bikes under their desks or mounting computers to them to do simultaneous but unrelated activity while computing, and some have been doing this with video game devices. (Sub r/treadmillgaming discusses, mostly for treadmills but with some stationary bike discussion.)
  • And of course some people just watch TV or read a book while they stationary cycle.

What would be ideal would be actual games where the cycling is an inherent part of the game, so one has to keep pedaling to keep playing, and ideally the pedaling speed or resistance is tied to what's happening in the game.Peloton has Lanebreak which does this, but it's reportedly the platform's only game. Zwift has Zwift play controllers that add buttons to controllers that can be mounted to road bike handlebars with the road bike mounted on an indoor trainer, but the software seems to just use these as ways to enhance cycling simulation rather than other types of video games.

A company called Expresso makes exactly what I think would be ideal, a series of commercial stationary bikes with a whole series of HIIT games that look great. Their bikes have handlebars that allow steering and both the steering & pedaling are inherent parts of the games. Check out https://expresso.com/Learn/Experience/Games and see this YouTube demo of someone playing their dragons game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoEHcs8aHrk

But the problem is these bikes are not priced for the home market and are thousands of dollars more than a Peloton Bike+, can't be rented as far as I can tell, nor can they be bought easily on trial & returned like Peloton bikes & their competitors. (And presumably even if one got a used gym Expresso Go bike, the service model for if it breaks may not be friendly for home owners.)

Spriit Overflow is a game on steam that looks great & can be played (IIRC) on the right smart bike trainers but it's not part of a bigger ecosystem & bike trainers aren't ideal for non-cyclists. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1757870/Spirit_Overflow/

Someone made a Grand Theft Auto mod that lets you bike around the GTA world, but it's not exactly a consumer product appropriate for the iPad / Nintendo Switch generation, nor is GTA really age-appropriate for pre-teens/tweens/early-teens. Someone else is making a cycling game called Hustle City but it looks similar in terms of both the above points.

Nintendo made Ring Fit Adventure which captures the exact spirit of what I'm talking about wanting (using the draw of the video game to get some fitness in a no-boredom even fun way). Basically a gaming console added a fitness device, it just wasn't a stationary bike as the device (and thus not as good for maintaining leg muscle or really getting great cardio).

Reddit user u/Eljay1964 tried to ask a similar question 4 years ago of r/cycling but mostly replies wanted to point to Zwift at the time, though several of the above things got mentioned. https://www.reddit.com/r/cycling/comments/jjqulz/video_game_type_apps_for_indoor_cycling/

Basically, what's needed is a gateway drug for cycling, for people who aren't already cyclists (or spin class regularly) who don't have that inherent motivation already.

2 years ago there was a thread on r/pelotoncycle about playing regular video games while free riding on a Peloton bike, but of course the pedaling isn't in any way tied to the game. Nonetheless, many people said they found this a more enjoyable way to pass the time on the bike than the classes. https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/comments/x0wl1i/gaming_while_riding/

Peloton has several bike hardware competitors eg by Echelon, NordicTrack, Bowflex, CAROL, and there's an ecosystem called iFit that seems to have simulated rides & studio classes, but I didn't see anything to suggest any of these provide more actual video games rather than spin/cycling as the main content/activity.It's a shame Peloton hasn't built more games. Judging from the comments from some people, there is demand.

It's a shame Expresso hasn't made a home-targeted device and no one else has tried to make a home bike catering to iPad/Nintendo gamer types rather than spin class types or traditional cyclists. And it's a shame Nintendo & the like haven't tried to do deals with smart stationary bike manufacturers to incorporate the bikes as additional controllers. Anything else out there that I missed?

Top Comment: Just tell him he needs 30 minutes had pedal time, that's his job for the day. Don't soften him up with video games all the time, kids get enough screen time already

Motorcycle video games

Main Post:

With Truck, bus, car, train, farming simulators flooding the market. I can't help but wonder why there isn't a motorcycle simulator? It seems like something that would have been done by now. You could drive all of the famous tanks, free roam cities with all kinds of traffic, attempted to drive in dangerous areas like India or China. You could get flats, break down, get pulled over or run. Also, every action would have a reaction. From instance going up, getting bike confiscated, and wear and rear to bodily injury or death.

You would have to buy and trade bikes and could customize them. There could could a huge selection of bikes from all manufacturers like Forza and other racing games do. And of course all the bikes would ride like their real life counterparts.

What are your guy's opinions and thoughts?

Inb4: You could just actually go ride a motorcycle!

Motorcycle games?

I was wondering if there were any good motorcycle games where throttle controlling, leaning, breaking and cornering actually have some sort of risk rather than just grab button and accelerate.

Thoughts about other motorcycle games?

Main Post:

I bought Ride on the Edge 2 on a sale so I share my thoughts. I like the sense of speed, the thrill of speeding through narrow roads is definitely there. Very nice crash visualisation, nice sound, bikes behave realistically under braking and going through bumps. However, on the throttle the bikes behave as if they were on traction control. It's especially visible in low speed corners, where you can do maximum lean, open the throttle completely and be fine. Only reason to be careful about your input is if you have anti wheelie off. Other than that the game is alright, a bit too arcade for my liking. It's like Ride 3 in terms of realism, only in that game you could brake too hard without consequences, here it's sort of the same but with throttle. In my personal ranking Moto GP 20 is the best motorbike game currently. Definitely the most realistic.

Top Comment:

I think other motorcycle games are hit and miss. It’s either too arcade-y or the physics feel off. I agree MGP2020 is fantastic and definitely feels the best. I do like the Ride series but for some reason the physics feel a little weird even though it’s still a milestone game. Probably just because the bikes aren’t MotoGP bikes lol.

What are some good dirt bike games from the last 10 years or so?

Main Post:

I suddenly have a hankering for dirt bike racing. Less paved courses and more hills and jumps.

What are some fun games from around 2008 to now?

Top Comment: Nail'd is a weird arcade ATV game that you can pretty much beat in a sitting. It's $5 all of the time on PC. I liked it Of course there's Trials and Trials 2 . These do have set up courses and are not races. It's very fun and addictive, as you're trying to basically hit jumps and do the proper flips and boosts. It's one of those easy to learn very difficult to master sorts of games. I sunk days into the first Trials when it was on Xbox Live on the 360. It was the best indie game I ever played at the time. MX vs ATV Reflex is one that I would recommend. MXGP is probably going to be the game you're most interested in. Solid reviews and gameplay, real bikes, real racers, etc; Of course if you're looking for off raid in general, you can never go wrong with DIRT. If you're gaming on the PC, you can probably find some of these games on sale soon. Spring sales are popping up left and right, so just keep your eyeballs peeled!
